Our CTO and co-founder Fredrik Hedberg explains why Tink is looking to Poland for some of its next engineering stars.

TL;DR – Quick summary

Tink began in 2012 as a handful of developers in a small co-working office in Stockholm. We were on a mission to revolutionise the way people manage their money – and became Europe’s leading open banking platform. Today, almost 50% of our 380 colleagues across 13 European countries are developers and engineers – they are at the core of everything we do.

Despite the many difficulties of 2020, the tenacity and ambition of our engineering teams has enabled Tink to grow significantly. We built out our bank connectivity across Europe, increasing our coverage from 2,500 to 3,400 banks, making it possible for us to now serve more than 300 world-leading financial institutions, including PayPal, ABN AMRO and BNP Paribas.

We also raised funding of €175 million during 2020 to fuel our continued growth. Which means we are now embarking on an unprecedented recruitment drive that will see us hire 200 new colleagues during 2021. The biggest single expansion is taking place in our Polish office, where we are looking for 60 engineers at all levels to join us and take up the challenge of building the future of financial services.

Expanding our services across Europe

Our Polish engineering hub will focus on connectivity, data products and payments, and form an essential part of the central engineering team by working alongside their colleagues in Stockholm. In connectivity, our engineers will build Tink’s Europe-wide bank coverage, the critical foundation of all our products and services, with the responsibility to ensure the stability of our connections and to help us expand to other markets. While in payment initiation, we will double the markets we are present in across Europe during 2021, enabling companies of all shapes and sizes to integrate streamlined, low-cost payment solutions.

So why Poland? Alongside Stockholm, we’ve found it to be a thriving hive of tech talent. We already have a solid team of more than 50 engineers and product specialists based in Tink’s Warsaw office, and we’re exploring setting up new remote teams in other Polish cities like Cracow.

We’re looking for people who want to help us take giant leaps. It’s in our DNA to imagine, build and iterate, And we have built a company of passionate over-achievers who believe there is always a better way of doing things. People from all over Europe – and the world – have joined us to build the biggest and best open banking platform in Europe, and now we’re looking to Poland for the next phase of our mission to power the new world of finance.
